Previously at McKinsey from where he retired in late May 2024, Somesh co-led their Global Banking Practice for a number of years. Prior to that he led Digital Financial Services (across Banking and Insurance) for McKinsey globally. In this capacity, he led the development of McKinsey’s capabilities in digital strategy, digitally enabled business model transformations, digital marketing and sales and large scale digitization and automation programs for financial services clients. He also served Banking and Insurance clients more broadly on topics ranging from strategy and organization to sales and marketing, operations, technology and risk management.

Somesh also served on numerous personnel committees including those that elect Partners, elect Senior Partners and evaluate the performance of Senior Partners. He was also elected to McKinsey’s Shareholder’s Council but elected not to serve in that capacity.

Somesh led McKinsey’s New York Office from 2011 to 2012, and prior to that McKinsey’s Property & Casualty Insurance Practice from 2009-2011.

Prior to McKinsey, he served as CEO of a new business at eCredit aimed at digitizing the trade receivables securitization process in partnership with JP Morgan.

He also served as a Director on the Board of the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, New York, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Paul Newman’s Serious Fun Children’s Network.

Somesh has a Masters in Management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, Illinois; a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, India; a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), New Delhi, India. Somesh lives in New York City with his wife and two children, is an avid New Yorker and has a longstanding interest in performing arts, travel and golf.
